What is Mount Maunganui Kāhui Ako?

You may have heard the term Kāhui Ako or Communities of Learning.  This is a Government initiative to promote schools, Iwi, ECE and other agencies to work together for the betterment of the wider community.

Back in 2019,

Arataki School, Omanu School, Mount Primary, Tahatai Coast School, Mount Maunganui Intermediate, Mount Maunganui College, Ngāi Te Rangi iwi and representatives from 17 ECE's started the journey of becoming a Kāhui Ako.

In the three years following, we have established who we are and what we want to achieve. We identified key pieces of work that would benefit all and we have been through an extensive appointment process to put the right people in the right places.

Our vision is Kōkiri Kōkiri: Better Together

Our intent is to create a cohesive educational pathway from Early Childhood Education to Year 13.

We are well underway with three active workstreams that all work towards our intent.

These workstreams and strategic goals are:

Culture and Identity: The culture, identity and language of our people are valued and developed across our schools and ECE’s.

Transitions: Effective transitions enable seamless learning where akonga and whānau have a sense of belonging in their new setting.

Learning Support: Highly effective support provides equity and quality learning for ākonga requiring learning support.

In each of these workstreams each school, Iwi and ECE are represented.

As a  Kāhui Ako we will be sharing information about each workstream and the impact this is having on our tamariki ...
