Kia ora e te whānau, What an amazing school community we have here at Arataki School. Our whānau BBQ last week was a great example of whanaungatanga in action. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to meet many of you who do not always have the time to come into the school during school hours. I enjoyed seeing the many happy and smiling faces of our children playing on the bouncy castles and seeing families meet each other. We are trying to build opportunities for whānau to meet at kura and we are aiming to have one event each term where you can come in and share in your child’s learning at school. In term 2, our community event will be our Matariki Breakfast. On Tuesday, we hosted Ipu Laga‘aia, Sarah Mileham, Alfred Fonoti-Fuimaono and Tomairangi Henare from the New Zealand Opera. All the tamariki went and watched the show. The Opera was fantastic. The singing was outstanding. I was really impressed at how the children were all able to retell and discuss what they had watched. I had a very animated 5 year old retelling the story. The opera We have many teams having trips and education outside the classroom. This week we have had classes attend the Bethlehem Wetlands to participate in the wetland discovery day. Mangatawa and Kopukairoa have both had trips to Mangatawa Marae, we have had trips to the beach and today Hikurangi are having a teddy bears picnic. I am very proud of the educational opportunities that we offer our tamariki here at Arataki School. Please remember to watch our fortnightly video clips that share our learning over the fortnight. Reminders: - Term 2 sports registrations are open. You can access information to register your child for a winter sports team via our website or following the link that was shared on HERO.
- School photos on Monday 24th March.
Thank you to those of you who gave feedback on what you think the fundraising focus for Friends of School should be this year. The majority of the feedback received from staff, students and whānau was to continue to develop our playgrounds. Playground enhancement will be the focus for this year. Kiwi Academic Competitions |
 | At Arataki kura we are delighted to offer for the first time the annual Kiwi English, Mathematics and Science competitions. These are for our year 5 / 6 students who are excelling in these learning areas. The skills based Kiwi competitions are written by NZ teachers and closely align with the NZ curriculum. The competitions take place at Arataki school (in exam-like conditions), are completed online and will be run in the last 3 weeks of Term 2. Whānau will be provided with an individual student report outlining their performance, all will receive a certificate and there is also a prize for the top student in each competition. |
|
The cost for a student to participate is $9.90 per competition entered. If you are interested in your child participating in these competitions, please collect a form from the office or email Rebekah Shepard - rshepard@arataki.school.nz. Please return forms, with payment, to the office no later than Monday the 5th of May. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. Ngā mihi nui, Vicki Hiini Principal |
