Tēna koutou e te whānau,

Ka mau te wehi! Last week, we had two groups of Arataki Students perform at two events. Our Kapa Haka performed at Rā Whakangahau at Mount College on Friday. Our Pasifika group performed at Pasifika in the Bay in Katikati on Saturday. We had over 100 students involved in both events and they were fantastic. The students involved proudly represented our school. Thank you to all of the whānau who supported our tauira and to our kaiako who tutor and organise these groups. A big thank you to Quencie Talagi and Tua Meti for tutoring our Pasifika group.

Next Friday 15th November is Teacher Only Day. The teacher-only day is to give teachers time to upskill in the new English and Mathematics curriculum that come into effect at the beginning of 2025. We will be hosting staff from the Ministry of Education curriculum team as they work with our kaiako on the new curriculums. Please remember to keep your children home

During Term 3 and Term 4, our teachers are also participating in the latest professional development with Structured Literacy. Teachers are required to complete this professional development and we manage this by releasing the teacher and having a reliever in your child’s class.

During term 1 and term 4 an Arataki School hat is compulsory for children to wear when they are outside. We do have a number of children who do not have a hat. If your child does not have a hat, they have to play under our shaded areas. Can you please ensure that your child has an Arataki School hat. They are available to purchase from the office for $20.00.

I would like to thank Supreme Lock and Hardware. Supreme Lock and Hardware are proud to  sponsor Life Education Trust for Arataki School. Life Education is an incredible organisation that empowers young people to make informed and healthy choices for their future. Through engaging and interactive programs, Life Education Trust helps students develop essential life skills, promotes well-being, and fosters a sense of responsibility towards themselves and others.

With Supreme Lock and Hardware supporting this initiative, they aim to provide our local community of students with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive both academically and personally. We believe in the importance of nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared to face the challenges of tomorrow with confidence and care. Our partnership with Life Education Trust for Arataki School is an investment in the future of our community—helping students grow into informed, compassionate, and resilient young people.

We’re excited to continue supporting this valuable program and to see the positive impact it has on our students' lives. We hope your children have enjoyed having Harold in your school

Bees and Butterflies

Written by Asher with Maggie and Robyn

Last term, Maggie, Asher, and Robyn from the Montessori class started to build a bees and butterflies garden behind the library.  We have planted lots of seedlings and the swan plants have been getting heaps of Monarch Caterpillars.  We have many flowers including; Calendulas, Dahlia, Cosmos, Zinnia, Coriander, Lambs Ear, Tomato, sunflowers and many more.  Our newest friend Greta also brought some Tithonia seedlings from her garden at home.

This garden is designed to bring bees and butterflies of New Zealand to our kura.  With the help of Lizzie Earles we grew seeds into strong seedlings.  We brought the compost in our garden from Lizzie’s house in a wheelbarrow so the plants will grow strong.  You can come visit the garden but leave the flowers for the bees and butterflies, and remember don’t touch the caterpillars!

PRE LOVED UNIFORMS

Needing a few pieces of uniform.  Come and see our pre-loved uniforms at the school office.

Have your tamariki grown out of their uniforms? We are especially in need of Polo Shirts if you have any spare.

Please consider donating them back to the kura.  These uniform donations are:

  • sold to our whanau for donations of $5. The money raised is used for resources for our classrooms.
  • used for our tamariki who may need them.

These donations are gratefully received at the school office.
