Tēna koutou e te whānau,

How fantastic were our Matariki Disco’s yesterday! The children had such an amazing time. It was so great to see the children dress up and have an awesome afternoon or evening socially connecting with their peers. A big mihi goes to our Friends of School parents who set up and organised our disco. A lot of work went in behind the scenes to transform our school hall and to prepare the goodie bags & stalls. Also, a big thank you to our school staff who stayed to support our Friends of School parents and to assist with the smooth running of the Disco. I hope that your children really enjoyed themselves. One child asked me if we could have another Disco again next week. My answer - probably next term 🙂

SPORTS AT ARATAKI SCHOOL

We have had children representing our kura at the following sports events over the last two weeks. Our children always represent our kura with pride and exemplary behaviour.

  • Congratulations to our children who participated in the Mount Cluster Cross Country last week, it was great to be able to get down to the beach and watch our children race. Congratulations to Julian Graham who will now represent the Mount Cluster at the regional Cross Country champs.
  • Tackle Rugby 5’s, for the first time we had a team of Year 5 & 6 children participate in this event at Blake Park on Wednesday
  • Basketball World Cups - Our Year 3 & 4 team participated last Thursday and our Year 5 & 6 children participated yesterday.
  • Earlier in the term, we had a team of Year 5 & 6 children participate in the football world cup and I was extremely proud of Rehua Randall who received ‘Sportsmanship of the day.’ Rehua was selected out of every player who participated in the tournament.
  • Congratulations to Whaea Gina's daughter Manaia Nuku and Whaea Tatai's partner Ngarohi McGarvey-Black for making the NZ Olympic Rugby 7's Team.
  • We also have all of our Winter sports teams playing in the local competitions. I really enjoyed watching some of our netball girls play on Saturday.

MATARIKI

Next Thursday 27th June is our annual Matariki Breakfast and we are all looking forward to it.  You are all invited to come and have breakfast with us from 8am - 9am in the hall. After breakfast we are having an open learning morning where our classrooms are open from 9:00 - 9:50am for our tamariki to share their learning with you. Following this, we will conclude our morning celebration of Matariki with a whole school waiata at 9:50am. Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday. Reminder, school is closed on Friday 28th June for the Matariki Public Holiday.

Thank you to Fresh Choice Pāpāmoa for your support of our Matariki Breakfast and the donation you have given to Friends of School to enable us to put this breakfast together for free. Please support businesses who support our kura.

Needing a few pieces of uniform.  Come and see our pre-loved uniforms at the school office.

Have your tamariki grown out of their uniforms? We are especially in need of Polo Shirts if you have any spare.

Please consider donating them back to the kura.  These uniform donations are:

  • sold to our whanau for donations of $5. The money raised is used for resources for our classrooms.
  • used for our tamariki who may need them.

These donations are gratefully received at the school office.
