Tēna koutou e te whānau,
I cannot believe that we are at the end of term 1 already. Time in schools always goes extremely fast, as schools are always busy places with lots going on. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the tamariki, whānau, school staff and wider community for making me feel so welcome at Arataki School. It is a warm and welcoming community where we are truly ‘Growing Hearts and Minds - Whakatipuhia ngā manawa me ngā hinengaro’.
Staffing updates and changes Term 2
Tai Ballentyne, our Sports Coordinator, has resigned from his position as he has accepted a position as Sports Coordinator at Tauranga Girls College. I want to thank Tai for his time organising sports and sports teams at Arataki School.
We have appointed Tatai Kerr-Tuaupiki as our new Sports Coordinator. Tatai will begin her position on Monday 29th April.
We welcome Mike Paton to Arataki School. We have employed Mike as a Specialist Teacher to work alongside our children who receive ORS funding. Mike is joining us from Rotorua Specialist School.
Events across the school
Congratulations to Robyn Parchomchuk & Jimi Gordon who represented the Mount Cluster at the Western Bay of Plenty Swimming Sports on Wednesday. We are very proud that you represented our school at this event.
We have been very lucky to have the team from Bikewise at school this week. The children in Year 5 & 6 have had bike safety checks and have been out learning how to ride their bikes safely on the road.
Next term, we have our Whānau Learning Conferences on Wednesday 15th May and Thursday 16th May. Early Term 2 we will send out information for you to book your learning conferences with your child’s teacher. We are also in the process of updating our school management system - HERO. Your child’s learning goals will be available for you to view early next term.
Friends of School
Thank you to our Friends of School for your fundraising efforts this term. We have a fundraising metre going. We have a target of $35,000.00 that we would like to fundraise this year so that we are able to purchase a school van. The Friends of School are currently planning a number of fundraising events throughout the year. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for events that you may be interested in helping out with. Alternatively, if you know of any corporate that may be interested in sponsoring or supporting our Kura, please pop into the office and let me know.
