Kia ora koutou
It is my pleasure to welcome you and introduce you to Arataki School.
My name is Shelley Blakey and I have been Principal at Arataki School since the beginning of 2015. I started at Arataki School as the Deputy Principal in 2014.
There’s something special about Arataki School. When you walk in you can feel a warmth and a connection. Perhaps it comes from our name, Arataki means to “lead” or “guide”. In our place we are all leaders and we believe that every child who walks through our door is the leader in their educational journey.
Student learning is the focus at Arataki School. Everything we do must add to student learning and achievement. We are committed to ensuring that as a school we respond to the changes in the world around us and we prepare our children for their future. Our team of dedicated staff provide rich and varied opportunities for our tamariki to gain the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their education and beyond.
We ensure we regularly celebrate effort, success and achievement. We also make sure that pastoral care is a priority to ensure all students’ needs are met within a physically safe and emotionally secure classroom and school environment. Arataki School is a place where everyone is important and respected for who they are.
We believe that education is a partnership between home and school and welcome and encourage parents and caregivers into our school. If you would like to visit and have a look around please contact the office so that we can organise either myself, a staff member or a student representative to accompany you around our amazing school.
