Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Emergency Evacuation for: earthquake, fire, tsunami, air crash, lock down
In case of an Emergency Arataki School will;
- Notify the appropriate emergency service-Phone 111.
- Collect Classes File from office.
- Proceed immediately to main assembly area. Main assembly area is on the back of the field. The school hall will be used if the field is not appropriate.
- Roll call procedures-all students/staff accounted for.
WARNING SIGNALS
Continuous sounding of siren and announcement to vacate the buildings. If there is no electricity the hand bell will be rung.

EVACUATION PROCEDURES FOR EARTHQUAKES
If inside–Stop, Cover, Hold (Shelter under desks, tables, door frames until shaking stops. Keeping away from windows.
If outside-keep away from buildings, trees, poles that my fall on you.
Once shaking stops move to assembly area and follow school procedures.
EVACUATION PROCEDURES FOR FIRE
On signal from your teacher or warning signals are activated, leave by safest route to main assembly area at the back of the field.
Follow school procedures.
EVACUATION PROCEDURES FOR TSUNAMI
On signal from your teacher or intercom announcement move to the hall and assemble in your class.
An announcement will be made over the intercom system instructing everyone to go to the hall.
Severity of tsunami warning

EVACUATION PROCEDURES FOR AIR CRASH
On signal from your teacher move to main assembly area at the back of the field and assemble in your class area providing this is well clear of any danger. If not move to the nearest open space that is safe and easily accessible.
EVACUATION PROCEDURES FOR CHEMICAL SPILLAGE
On signal from your teacher move to the school hall and assemble in your class.
EVACUATION PROCEDURES FOR LOCKDOWN
An emergency Lockdown will be announced by intercom or voice communication.
If indoors-stay in the room, remain seated and keep calm and quiet.
If outdoors-everyone to go to their classroom or the nearest classroom, sit down on the floor and keep calm and quiet.
Students and staff should stay where they are until official notification is provided by the Deputy Principal or and identified police officer that the lockdown is over.
- At all times a teacher’s first responsibility is the safety of the children.
- Parents are to pick students up from school at a designated safe area.
- School text contact procedures will be used if able to access.
Other emergencies
Will be dealt with using similar procedures if needed.
